Crisp, clean, and clear.

Anyone can tell me what would be the choice pickup regarding said title for progressive rock/metal? I`m running a McNaught Singlecut with Rio Texas and SD JB into a Mesa Singlec Rectifier. I`m thinking of the WCR Hercs but they are so spendy. Anything qualify in the Dimarzio or Duncan camp?

Re: Crisp, clean, and clear.

I play in a prog rock/metal band and NOTHING beat's the clarity and response that a Tone Zone dimarzio has. No matter how fast I pick it always stays clear which is very good for the fast and complicated stuff being played in prog rock. It also cuts through the mix like crazy.

I really like the DiMarzio Steve's Special for a high output but clear pickup. The clearest sounding Duncans that come to mind (IMHO) would be the Screamin Demon, Full Shred, or Custom.

Re: Crisp, clean, and clear.

I'll second the Steve's Special. Back when I was a super prog-rocker this pickup worked great through my Mesa under high gain. I had it in a USRG. The Steve's will totally get Petrucci tone through a Mesa. I had the Tone Zone in the same guitar(that is what it came with) and it had a fatter, bassier tone that tended to be a little muddy on rhythm parts. It did work great for leads, though. An Air Zone might be another consideration.
