Crossley Kanji Sisters

Hi guys,
Just finished setting up these two sisters in arms,
built for one guy, both have the same timbers, being maple over mahogany, Queensland maple and purple heart necks, Nigerian Ebony boards, Tasmanian Myrtle control covers.
One has a Schaller roller bridge, the other has a Kahler Hybrid Trem
FAB Brierley humbuckers, usual coil splitting, and a kill switch down near the input jack. Sperzel lockers and Kanji Script inlaid int the boards, Now that nearly sent me blind!!!
Sorry for the glary pix, its summer here and trying to find shade is murder!
Aussie Sunshine, Comes in Great big bucket loads.

Cheers
Pete

Dude, you never cease to amaze me with your craftsmanship. I know I've never held one up close to really scrutinize it, but if your pictures and that review tell me anything, your guitars are top notch through and through.

That inlay work must must have been a biatch!

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Yeah the inlay's were a bit of a handfull!!!!
never mind, I've been playing with these toys, until the clients come around to pick up their babies and spoil my fun

yeah its the setup that takes a bit of time. I always get the heavier springs with them, these work a lot better, If you lock the bridge, which you can do with the Hybrid, then adjust the strings to pitch, then slowly adjust the spring tension hex screw until the bridge just "floats" off the locking pin. Then its all setup really quickly.

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

You gotta stop posting stuff like that man! Seriously, I think I would trade in my prs for one of those with p90s if the guitars sound and play as good as they look.

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Two more lookers. Nice job. I have to admit, if I were in the market for a high end piece I would certainly be considering one of Mr. Crossley's creations. You do some killer looking work, man.

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

I'll go ahead and extend my services in testing guitars out. Just send me one of those bad boys and I'll play it and break it in for you. :D

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Any chance you could make one of these with a maple fretboard?

Always a chance!

If a client wants maple, then they get maple, I just prefer an unfinished fretboard. But everyone is different, and thats what makes the world go round!

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Gorgeous! What does the inlay say??

Of course, I have to be honest, whenever you post, Im always left wishing I could get a poster of your avatar... Or at least a bigger picture..:eyecrazy:

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Gorgeous! I'm drooling all over my laptop. You have a distinctive body style with these builds. I'm curious, do you have other body styles that you produce, or have you settled on this body shape as your proprietary design? I'd be interested in seeing your other work, too, if you have other shapes that you produce.

Oh, and, seriously, you've got to change that avatar -- it's a HUGE distraction from the build pics you are posting :)

That body shape is pretty much my standard design, I do other types, specifically with the hollow semi-acoustic types, and I also do a solid with a slightly different lower horn.
It sort of came about due to the ergonomics of the guitar, rather than an aesthetic design.
The guitar wont slide off your lap if you are playing it sitting down, and it balances in exactly the right position when used with a strap. then I just drew the lines toghether from those cardinal points.
if you want you can check out what I do on my website, www.crossleyguitars.com
look at the H and G series.

But, I have a lovely chunk of quarter sawn Sitka spruce, that I keep threatening to turn into an archtop. It will happen one day!

Cheers
Pete

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

So far the first one on the Kahler one is Happiness and the third one is prosperity.

The fourth one on the hardtail is chi/ki = spirit, soul.

No idea what the others are. They don't seem to be in my dictionary. Is it meant to be Chinese or Japanese? From what I heard Chinese uses more characters.

I imagine a similar motif looking even more amazing if there was a black lacquerware kind of finish also.

Re: Crossley Kanji Sisters

Do you build any 7 or 8 stringers? I ask b/c you could make some serious coin if you venture into that market. Go to sevenstring.org and I guarantee you'll fill your entire order for the next year. Sherman, Kxk, and Bernie Rico are all so backordered that they all have at least 6 month waits, more likely yr waits for an axe. Judging from your pics, you have some gorgeous guitars that will be highly sought after.

Not to design a new biz model for you, I'm just saying, there's money to be earned, you should capitalize :friday:
