CS P-90 size humbuckers

Re: CS P-90 size humbuckers

No, but I wish they had a lot of them in their standard line up.

Yes. A JB90.

Next question.

Howdy fellas...

Yes. A JB90.

Next question.

I vaguely remember you saying that the bobins are not of the same size... I might be wrong of course.

Is that so? And in that case, what are the perceived differences?

I am entertaining the idea of ordering such a set as well...

Best,

B

Re: CS P-90 size humbuckers

Imagine, if you will, that the bobbins intended for a humbucker were shaved or abraded down about their straight edges such that the wound copper coil would almost extend beyond the new edge.

Now, imagine these coils mounted side-by-side on a metal baseplate of approximately soapbar P90 proportions.

With the polepieces approximately a quarter of an inch closer together than normal, the sensing window is narrower. So, in a manner of speaking, is the sound.

Re: CS P-90 size humbuckers

Bumping to see if there's anything else to be said about these humbuckers.

I take it they sound like Pearlies or JBs that sense a narrower section of string, yes? They're just humbuggies under a soapbar or dogear cover?

And with the modern Gibsons, installing one of these would mean replacing at least one pickup's wiring, right?

I'm thinking of ordering the A2 Pearly Gates version for the bridge position. The stock neck pickup is a reasonably strong A5 Gibson P90S. Would the neck P90S's A5 magnets overpower an A2 bridge, as such?

Bottom line, I'm playing 60s rock, blues and jazz. Would this pickup work in a 2014 Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker?

(My current P90S bridge pickup can be seen in my profile photo.)

Thanks.

I would be happy if they had better choices for humbucker sized P90's. There couldn't possibly be a market for those?

Are these the ones the OP means?

I've been wondering about these myself for my 2014 Les Paul 'Melody Maker.'

I'm quite curious.

Be sure to check the depth of the pickup routs. On mine they are shallow, it was a job getting my DiMarzio DLX Plus and Virtual P90 to fit. I had to ditch the mounting plate and screwed the pickup directly to the guitar. I had to get an extra long wood screw to reach the bottom of the rout for the wiring to the switch and cut a channel in the bottom of the pickup rout for the pickup wire. The bridge pickup was not bad but is screwed directly to the mounting plate without springs. Both could be further fro the strings.

Thanks. I don't want to modify the body in any way. I'm still mulling this over. [emoji33]

I have often thought about buying aDiMarzio tone zone p 90 for the hell of it.

Curious to see if anybody has ordered one of these from the CS as well:

I have a 2011 Les Paul Junior that is noisy, and thinking about an upgrade. Thanks.
