Cs69 and fat 50s paired with an ssl5

I'm building up a strat and have decided on putting an ssl5 in the bridge. I want to do the gilmour style setup with a cs69 in the middle and the fat 50s in the neck. Which versions of these pickups will give me hum cancelling in 2 and 4? I know that fenders are wound the opposite of duncans, so it seems like a neck cs69 in the middle would give me hum cancelling with the bridge/middle and a middle 50s in the neck would give me hum cancelling with the neck/middle. Or am I all backwards on this?

Your plan sounds accurate.

Don't forget to swap the leads on the SSL-5 so it's in phase with the other two also.

Good luck finding a RWRP CS69. ;)

Just need a rwrp 50s. I'm getting the ssl5t... The tapped version.

You will need a RWRP SSL5 (north polarity magnets) as the CS69 only comes with south polarity magnets.

Why is that? The ssl5 should already be reverse of a cs69. I should just need a rwrp fat 50s for the neck.

50s rwrp - north
Cs69 - south
Ssl5t - north

Seems right to me?

Yes based on your last post. SSL5 should be north. You can always reverse leads for proper phasing.

Re: Cs69 and fat 50s paired with an ssl5

A north polarity SSL5 "is" a RWRP.

Standard Duncan Strat pickups are south polarity.

Re: Cs69 and fat 50s paired with an ssl5

SSL5t is a tapped version for reducing output of the pickup. Duncan could make you a tapped RWRP version if you like.

Yeah I intentionally ordered the tapped one to use with a push pull pot. This whole idea sounds like a great way to wind up with a Charlie foxtrot. It might be simpler to just snag 2 more duncans instead.

Fat 50 must be RWRP. Other than American Standard pickups from the mid 90's until they replaced them last year (with Fat 50s no less), Fender standard wind pickups are south polarity. .. just like Duncan.
Where Duncan and Fender differ is the wind direction which you can reverse when you solder the leads.

OK cool. Thanks for the help clearing this up for me.

I should note that it's really frustrating that a single of either of those fender pickups is $65 or so new but you can get a whole set for $130. With this in mind, I may throw the noise cancellation out the window and just buy a set of custom 69s. I can put 2 in the strat that I'm rebuilding and either sell the 3rd or stick it in my other strat, an 06 mahogany hss that is 100% stock (2 tex mex singles and a diamondback humbucker).

Cs69s will be here tomorrow. I suppose to keep wiring simple for the coil tap that it will be easier to just flip the leads on the fender pickups. Sound right? I plan on connecting the coil tap wiring to a push pull pot.

The cs69 pickups sound great. I'm still waiting on the ssl5t to get here.

Let us know how it turns out. You should be able to reverse the wires on the Fenders to match.
