Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

In my search for a good practice amp, I 've narrowed it down to two amps: a cube 30x (or rx?) and a Vox ad15vtxl...

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury to test them out, so could you guys help me decide?

Thx

I myself would get the VOX. What kind of sounds do you need and where do you practice?

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

Whoops, forgot to mention what sounds I need :smack:

It would be mainly used to play metal.... stuff like arch enemy, carcass, Dark tranquility...

It will be used to play at home, so it doesn't need to be very loud... one thing I do find important is that the bottom end doesn't fart out... my guitars are tuned to B standard so it needs a good bottom end...

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

i have a micro cube and its perfect for practicing. easy to carry around and has a bit of a punch for a 2 watt amp...but if your choosing between the two i would go with the cube. just from my experience with the micro cube.

I can't say about either for Low B. However - I chose the cube, and I do play heavy metal. It came down to:

It had the minimum models that I'd actually use, I had no problem dialing in sounds fast, and the effects were sufficient.

The Vox is a great choice too. All the Vox/Marshall models were just a waste of space for me, and I didn't feel like tweeking effects. But if you want all ther vox/marshall stuff and a little mroe control, its your amp.

I dig the Cube. Been wailing on some wicked Recto setting lately with a touch of delay. I just like the Cubes basic distortion flavors and the eq, really. Get's me what I need no fuss.

I'll vote VOX. I have an AD15VT and it's a real amp. I feel like a cube is a novelty or a toy, but an AD is a real amp.

I tried both in my search fr a practice amp and bought a VOX.

I use it for my weekly gig now, every week. (close mic'd with an SM57)

The Roland is of a higher build quality but the sound is a little too obviously digital and it lacks warmth.
The Vox is outstanding in it's modelling capabilities with an exceptionally deep and tight bass but the build quality isn't as good....
just twiddle the knobs and you'll see where they have cut corners.
Your ears will decide, if it were me....I'd grab the Vox.

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

They both have their good and bad points and in the end I think either would get the job done.As far as low tunings you would have to plug in and try them and see if it works for you. I've had the Cube and now an AD50 and I could easily get by with either.

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

So basically I can't go wrong with either one.... ATM I 'm leaning towards the vox :)

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

One last question, would the Vox ad30vtxl sound better than the 15watt version, since it has a 12" speaker and the 15watt has a 10" speaker?

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

I had the 30 watt version and really liked the size of the amp all around, speaker, cabinet. You could most certainly gig with it. I'm not sure the 15 watt has the power attenuator which you'll need for bedroom level practice.

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

good thing you pointed out the power attenuator, didn't notice that the 15w doesn't have one...

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

Another vote for the Vox. I've got a Ad15VT and its a monster! Very loud for its size and the tone is excellent. Its got great bottom end, the little 10" speaker still rattles the windows. Most of the models are very usable and so are the effects. I A/B'ed before buying with other modelling amps from Roland, Marshall, Fender and Line 6 and the Vox was a clear winner IMO.

Re: Cube 30x vs Vox AD15VTXL

The 15 does not have a power scaler, but it has a master volume.

The volume is infinitely variable, and you can turn it way down and get great tone at low dB.
