Re: Custom 5 or Custom Custom for super strat bridge?
Why choose? PATB-1b. Best of both sounds, plus a bit of extra push, in one pickup. Also gets some comparisons with the S-Deco.
The PATB-1b has less mids than the CC, but more than the C5. More highs than CC, but less than C5. Sweeter upper mids than either, thanks to the Parallel Axis construction. If you back the tone off, it softens up like the CC.
One install tip on the PATB-1b, if it's too bright, deep & hollow sounding, back the pickup away from the strings until the mids come back.
Out of the two you picked, I'd probably go with the CC if you are an EVH fan, and the C5 if you want a brasher crunch. Or you could go to an Unoriented A5 to get something that splits the difference a bit better, though without the other benefits of the PATB.
[Those being: reduced string pull, improved sustain, articulation and string balance, enhanced harmonic response, and they're recommended for beefing up a superstrat with floating vibrato bridge to sound like a thick Les Paul.]
