Custom 5 SH14

I'm looking at a Yamaha Pacifica 611 FHM which comes with Seymours - SH14 bridge and P90 neck. The guitar is very strat-like i.e. alder body, maple neck, rosewood board. I'm a little concerned that the SH14 may be too mid scooped. Youtube demos of the guitar sound good but the demo on the SD Tone Chart sounds terrible - nothing like the Youtube demos of this guitar and no mids at all.

What's your opinion of this pickup particularly in a Strat ?

Re: Custom 5 SH14

I wouldnt really say its mid scooped. I would more say it has pronounced bass and treble. The mids are there just a bit overshadowed.

yeah, good way to say it. I have one in my Squier strat and it works great. even have a push pull pot to split it and sounds good split too.. Keep in mind, the beautiful thing about any of the customs, is if it doesnt trip your trigger, a magnet swap can dial it in. So, wouldnt have to change the whole pup.. But the Custom5 was put into production cuz so many guys liked the custom with an A5 mag.. Its a great pup.. But, as with any, your ears and rig may vary..

This right here. No spike in the mids like some pickups and there is a big, tight bottom with chiming highs....but it isn't like there are zero mids. I have never had a problem sitting in a band mix using the Custom 5. Really versatile pickup and one of my favourites.

They are great in a mid-heavy guitar, like my poplar Music Man.

Also, one of my faves. It's worked well in every guitar I've had that pup in. Today, I'm installing one in my semi hollow.
