Custom 5 too hot

I've got the custom 5 in a charvel
NAtural series custom guitar...while I like it, it's hotter than I would like. The 59 neck is in the guitar too, so seems like the 59 bridge would be the equivalent and be close to the same sound as the custom 5, only not as hot...true?

Any others to consider that would sound like the custom 5 but less hot?

Thanks

59 bridge is a good call to keep the tone profile and lower the heat a bit from a Custom series. Pearly Gates might be another in the ball park, or a Jazz bridge.

I'd think the 59 is closer to the Custom's EQ profile at about 2/3 the volume. It has a little more mids, but not much more. I'd start with the 59.

Try a different way to set up your guitar. First set up the neck to your comfort (remember that the amount of bass is the determinating factor for overall loudness), than bring down the bridge pup until match the neck.
BTW A a lower reading 500k (e.g. 450k) or even a 300k volume pot for the bridge also helps to balance it out.

I don't recommend the WLH for a strat or Charvel. It will be very bright in the upper mids - More so than the Custom 5. I would recommend a Suhr SSV+ 10k bridge humbucker. PAF PRO is another option that is similar in output, but is different in the way it produces harmonic overtones.

The 59 is the obvious answer, but if you want something a little hotter then the 59/Custom hybrid is fantastic. I've only used it in a Les Paul though. Not sure how it would be in your guitar.

Yes, similar sound but in ascending hotness: 59, Whole Lotta humbucker, 59/Custom hybrid, Custom5.
The WLH may sound a little bit different in flavor, the hybrid has one 59 coil and one custom5 coil.
'59 is about 8k in terms of resistance, the WHL sits at about 10k, the hyrbid at about 11k, the Custom at around 14k.

I found the Pegasus to be sort of a rounder less dipped midrange lower output custom 5. Not sure if it’s a quality many people want but a/bing it that’s what I found it to be like.

I can see that. The Pegasus is a little more modern, but covers the same ground.

reviving this post...considering the 59B, pearly gates, and custom hybrid...another trait I'm looking for is extreme sensitivity to pick attack, and being able to control output that way. Which one of these would be most sensitive and controllable?

Also, which one stands up best to high gain and doesn't collapse or get to shrill...

Thanks

I guess I should have said "sensitivity with some muscle too" Assuming the hybrid would be the hottest but not sure if that midrange thing it's got going on is what I'm looking for....

Try a Perpetual Burn Really sweet pickup that is very articulate and is less harsh and abrasive that ether the Custom 5 or the Hybrid. Have a couple in play and love them.
