Do these pickups work well together?
I currently have Dimarzio Norton bridge and Air Classic neck in an Ibanez RG, and have considered switching over to a SD alternate set that would accomplish similar things but with a Duncan flavour. In terms of versatility and moderate output with a vintage neck pickup and a higher gain bridge for EVH/80's rock going to more modern metal styles when plugged into a modern hi gain amp. The split sound of the Custom/59 could also be a big plus, as I've had good experiences with the split sound of the Custom in the past.
Does anyone have experiences with these pickups in terms of how the bass response would be? The Norton is one FRED coil, and one TZ coil.
I've always wanted to run the Pearly Gates in the neck but the only thing that worries me is the squishy bass response. But it's a 24 fret guitar, so maybe that wouldn't be an issue? Or maybe a bridge PG in the neck might be better if it's a bit bright? I love the raw bluesy tone of the Pearly Gates whenever I've heard it. Almost like it has a raw peeved off single coil characteristic. Just wondereing if anyone has any impressions of how these two would work in a basswood 24 fret guitar.
