Custom 8 vs Super Distortion?

Recently I found a thread about comparing Duncans and SD, and somehow i started thinking about this.
Some people share the thought that Custom is the "closest" Duncan pickup thing to SD. I never played SD (:smack:) , but I have played all the customs, and from my point of view, I think that the Custom 8 could match it better.

But, as I said, i`m only guessing, cause i`ve never played SD, and I would love to hear what experienced people have to say. I`m not trying to replicate SD`s sound with duncans, I`m just curious about their tonal differences.

That`s it. Custom 8/SD users, please start talking. ;)

Re: Custom 8 vs Super Distortion?

The Custom 8 is smoother than the Dimarzio SD, to me the Custom 8 sounds like a JB with the emphasis shifted to the low mids and not so much in the highs. The Custom 8 has a warm voice but I would not say that it is dark or has a lot of bass. The Dimarzio has a prominent low end with good mids and rolled back highs, it sounds 70's while the Custom 8 is more modern sounding with an 80's type of edge to it. Like the JB the C8 is very much a lead players pickup that also does chords well, the Dimarzio sounds full doing chords but in my experience leads can feel a little "stiff"

I have both and can support jimlp. The SD sound muffled, compressed and overly lowmiddy to me. The C8 is definintly dripping 80ies out of every pore, but i never had a problem to get a bluesy ZZTop sound out of it. Best of both Worlds (got it? :scratchch) to me!
