I can tell you from experience with the CC (I have 2), it may not have the bottom end as a Custom, but it can still chug with the best of them. I actually like the bottom end of it. It's not too boomy, not too flat, but just right. I run the bass on my amp at around 8 or 10 depending on the guitar anyway.

The CC is a very cool pickup. It sounds great clean and under gain it screams. It is hot enough to tighten up a modern high gain amps front end without sounding overly compressed with the gain cranked. The bottom end is slightly spongy without sounding weak or loose. The mids are strong and I find that the mid hump on the CC is higher than that of the C-5 which has a solid low mid hump, but lower than the JBs mids which are somewhat up there. The top end is very present but it is more of a singing than screaming tone that you usually find in alnico v or ceramic magnet pickups.
The CC covers beautiful through brutal very easily.
