Help! I don't know which one to pick....Which one has more treble/bass/bite/crunch???...I play mainly heavy-rock to some milder rock, e.g. InMe/Placebo/David Bowie/Pixies....Can someone help me? What's the good and down points to each of these pickups?????

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

IMO, the CC is a great pickup, but not for everyone. It sounds very thick, focused, buttery and smooth, though chrunchy.

The JB sounds very thin, almost like a 80's hair metal tone.

Though, this is just my opinion ;)

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

Well....i have two 59's in my Epiphone G400, i bought the Epiphone G310 as a little project....I want something with less bass to it, even though the 59 bridge has a dead nice bite to it, it can be a bit too much bass-wise. The G310 is an Alder body...So which pickup do you think would give me that "Bite" and "Crunch" i desire in this guitar???

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

Well, i'm not the biggest guru here on this forum, but i'd recommend the Custom Custom. It sounds very warm and fat without too much bass. But then again i'm not sure if it'll sound modern enough for your tastes, seeing that it doesn't sound very tigth and\or agressive.

I'm sure there will pop in some more experienced guys on this thread later! :)

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

Custom or Custom Custom. If you want a tighter bass and less mids, go with the Custom. If you want more mids, smooth highs and an "on the edge" bass, meaning it's not tight and it's not spongy, but teetering the line of going either way, then go with the Custom Custom. I love the CC in alder bodies. It's great for everything.

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

Go for the Custom if you're after everything: bass, mids, treble and crunch.

It's become my favorite of the Customs although I also love the Custom Custom.

But the Custom Custom has less bass, more mids, less treble and less crunch than the Custom.

What the Custom Custom does have though is a great smooth tone with lots of mids.

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

The CUSTOM is total rock and roll
the C5 will give you a sweeter tone, that is still rude, but kinda too sweet in the mids
The CC is thick and focused and if yo uwant a little classic crunch and bite, it's not in there as much. It's a little more about being thick with some sponge.

The JB is gonna be thick as hell and focused and cut, but it's not as ballsy in the bass. Not a fave for rhythm in IMHO.

The CUSTOM is your best choice, but it's gonna sizzle a bit and have that stiffness that ceramic mags give you. If you aren't into that - which I am not - you will prefer the JB. If you can handle less gain and grind to the feel I recommend the C5 - it bridges the modern and classic tones quite well.

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

I don't hear the Custom as sounding "stiff"...not even slightly! :)

Re: Custom, Custom-Custom, JB.

Wow, cheers for the feedback!! I think i may very well go with the Custom. I'm just making sure i research this as much as possible before making my choice...lol, the money is hard to come by. How versatile is the Custom???

Neither do I...though I might say that about the JB (which I like as well, but not as much as the Custom right now).
