Custom Custom in ash?

I am having a devil of a time finding the right pickup for my Schecter Reaper 6. The guitar is an ash body set neck with a maple neck and an ebony board. The guitar plays great and resonates for days.

I have tried a few BKP pickups, but everything seems to be super bright. I currently have a Duncan Distortion in the guitar, but I’m still on the fence about it. Was thinking about the Custom Custom.

Playing through a Splawn QuickRod. I play hard rock/ metal. Would love to hear your thoughts. I would like a higher output pickup for this guitar. I prefer the way higher output pickups hit my amp. Thanks!

The CC might be perfect for you, but you might not like the bass- it is pretty squishy and not tight. For a tighter pickup, look at the Black Winter.

I'd suggest you mag swap. The Distortion is very good with alnico in it. A simple A5 swap would really improve it and reduce the shrillness. The Custom Custom wind is good too and takes mag swaps.

If you basically like the Dist. (you're on the fence about it), you may find the CC a bit lacking in the highs and a bit soft in the lows, especially in an ash body. I agree with Clint here, try an A5 in that Dist.

However, if you do try one of the Custom winds, I wouldn't go all the way to a CC (with an A2 mag), that would sound dramatically different than the Dist. You might want to try a Custom 5 instead.

Honestly SFW I agree with Mincer here about trying the Black Winter. I have a strong feeling that might be much closer to what you're after.
Tight low end, definitely high output but not too bright and actually a fairly versatile pickup. I think it might be a better alternative to that Distortion you're currently using.
The Custom Custom is one of my favorite pickups but I just am not sure it's going to have the kind of tone you might be looking for in that particular guitar.
Then again, the CC has surprised me on occasion when I've tried it in certain situations I didn't expect it to excel in and wound up really liking the results.

Necro and arguably self-promotion, but hey, soundclips are arguably better than words.

I use a Custom Custom in the bridge position of my main

The guitar is 2pc Ash body + maple top and 2pc quartersawn maple neck. Bolt on.

The solo and riffs after the solo right before fading out were recorded on this same guitar

The riffs BEFORE the solo was recorded with a guitar with BKP Holy Divers.

I think in E and Eb standard, there isn't a huge difference in in clarity, and IMO a Splawn would have enough cut anyways to not have to worry about tightness
