Custom-custom, is this pup able to get mean?

I am very interested in the CC, how does it handle the heavier tones?
is it real aggressive yet sweet at the same time?

Big, thick mids are the order of the day. It can get plenty mean with the right amp. If by sweet you mean no annoying "mosquito buzz" highs, then yeah, it'll cover that.

Re: Custom-custom, is this pup able to get mean?

I can do metal, blues and cleans and about anything else with no problem with mine. Just have a good amp and there you go. I think it is sweet and mean at the same time.

You really need to consider the guitars owned by the people who are responding.

Anything with a stainless steel bridge is going to handle the "mellowness" of that pickup better than a vintage trem, or something with a chrome-plated bridge. A stainless steel bridge is inherently "brighter" than one that isn't comprised of the same metal, whether or NOT it's blocked, or a floating or locking tremolo.

Not to mention the amplifier.....

If it's any consolation, C.J. Piece of Drowning Pool uses a CC supposedly. So there you go.

I agree, i use a floyd loaded guitar and thought maybe the CC would be a nice toned pup for the thinness, brightness of the ibanez RG's.
I was told the C5 would be good also?

I'm doubtful on this one...that pickup is scooped bigtime.

really? bloodrose has one in his ibanez RG and says it is very balanced?

Re: Custom-custom, is this pup able to get mean?

Well maybe his guitar as a ton of mids naturally in it's sound but like I said in the other thread it sounded way scooped in my Les Paul. And the one thing I did like about it was the bottom end but it just had no balls in the middle.

Ditto! Sounded the same way in my alder Floyd guitars.

Yeah, I agree. I converted my CC to a C5 in the same guitar and there was no "push" to the mids with the C5. Lots of highs and lows, but not very rich or sweet, which the CC is.

CC and floyd equipped super strats are a match made in heaven! It helps to wash away that metallic uppermid heavy tone due to the floyd.

Yes it can handle biting stuff very well especially on the bridge of such guitars. For some clips, in addition to stevo's, check my crappy playing done with a japanese ibanez S470:

Wow this thread is interesting.
I always overlooked the CC because I figuered an A2 magnet deosn't have balls. But after hearing stevo's clips I must say it can have a very fat and rough sound while remaining smooth and sweet!

How is the palm muting under gain with a CC? I mean is it a tight pickup?

It's very tight in my guitar, though my guitar is VERY bright (all maple Carvin DC127T with ebony fingerboard). I get great palm mutes, sustain for days, and awesome harmonics from this pickup.

+1 the CC is tight and the harmonics are really good. I had over looked the CC also until I got one on a trade and I decided to try it out. I hit my first cord with it and it was all over with. I said goodbye to my Pearly gates bridge very quickly.

Re: Custom-custom, is this pup able to get mean?

Hmm interesting, I'm still getting a Super Distortion though. Could anyone compare the CC with a SD?

Hey Benjy I have a DC 127 too, it is bright. Body is poplar. Right now there's a Screamin Demon in there and it is killing me. Horrible match with the guitar.

I have been racking brain on gettting and Invader or a CC
Had you ever tried an Invader in your DC 127 and what was the result?
Could you put up any clips with your CC and DC 127 ?
thanks
