I have a Custom 5 trembucker that i want to convert to a Custom2. Do i need to buy Polished or Rough A2's??
Also what length and width do i need for trem-spaced?
Thx.

Re: Custom Custom magnet type....

Magnet length isn't a big deal as long as it covers both E strings. Even with shorter magnets there's enough overlap to cover each pole. Polished magnets sound more focused while rouchcast magnets sound softer and richer. As long as you are swapping magnets you might consider a RCUO A5 too because it lends a considerable amount of warmth while keeping the power and tonal characteristics of the A5. It will beef up the midrange and round off the treble without making the pickup as thick and midrange centric as a CC.

Thx guys.
I'll go for factory stock mags but for $4 a magnet, i'll also get a couple of different types just for tweaking.
Much appreciated.

Try a RCUO A5 and A8. Both are great choices because the range of tonal alteration magnet swaps have on this pickup are impressive.

+2. My thoughts exactly...A8 and rough cast UOA5. Really love either of those in the Custom.

Re: Custom Custom magnet type....

The C8 would be a great (and I expect very popular) production pup.

+1. It fills a void that the 3 production versions don't. C5's are too bright and thin for some players/guitars. People wanting more warmth try CC's, but some find them too warm in their guitars, and the low end too loose. Not everyone is thrilled with the qualities of ceramic magnets, and find Customs too harsh and/or hot. C8's could be said to have the best characteristics of those three PU's.

Edge, you're really getting confrontational/rank/demeaning in your old age on the forum.

(Yeah, I know, I should talk. Right?)

Was a joke dude... i dont see the confrontational in it but ok if you say so... I didnt disagree or argue was just a funny quip aimed at the back patting you guys were giving each other. Sorry

Re: Custom Custom magnet type....

No, I really understand. No offense was taken. I was just kinda doing the same thing myself.

However, if I agree with someone's comments, I'll say so. I think it helps the OP to make a decision if he can see that many forum members may feel the same about something he is inquiring about. (Like a poll. Not just one person's opinion).

I know what you mean. I hate it when forum members agree with each other and get along. It goes against years of tradition.

Funny thing is, Guitar Doc and I disagree on some things, but still treat each other with respect. On some of those same topics, other members go ballistic when they see people with different opinions and tastes than theirs, and try to humiliate them with name-calling and personal insults. Which is always a nice touch. It's the classy thing to do.

What am I thinking? That doesn't go on here, well, unless you count the past week of arguments, mudslinging, and pissing off two moderators who shut down a thread. Other than regular incidents like that, we're a pretty well-behaved bunch.
