Custom Custom VS AirZone

Hello all,

I have two American Fender Stratocasters, H/S/S configurations. The first Strat is an American Deluxe with alder body and rosewood neck. It currently has a Duncan Custom in it now. I am not that happy with it. The Duncan Custom is a little too bright and maybe just a bit to hot.

The second Strat has an ash body with a maple neck. It currently has a Fender made for Pearly Gates Plus in it. I am almost happy with this pickup. But it also is a little too bright but not quite enough power.

Now for the question, I have decided that I will try an AirZone in one strat and a Custom Custom in the other. I just don't know which strat should get which pickup. What would you guys do? Can anyone compare the Custom Custom to an Airzone. Anybody have one of these pickups in a strat like the 2 I have?

Thanks for reading this and I hope to get as much info as I can.

Re: Custom Custom VS AirZone

I have had 2 custom customs and I use and AIr zone now.

The Air zone has more high end sizzle and more bass. Both have plent of low mids. I find the AZ very balanced. Both are great pups. If you want smooth go custom custom, if you want thick go AZ

I would use the CC in Ash and the AZ in alder

Re: Custom Custom VS AirZone

I've loaded both in the same guitar before. The AZ has more lows and tighter lows. Both have a sweet high end to them and of course, lots of mids. I look at them as being distant cousins because they have some similar properties.

I agree with putting the CC in the ash Strat and AZ in the alder Strat.

I agree they are similar. You will like them both. Both very musical and singing sounding.
ERIk H I am loving the AZ you turned me on to.

Glad to hear you're digging it, Reckless. If you haven't done so yet, hook up a switch to split it. Just swap out the volume with a 500k push/pull. It is one of the best sounding split humbucker sounds I've ever heard.

Merry Christmas!
