I'm not trying to replicate his exact sound, just wanted to give you an idea of the sound I like. Another good example is the riff to No More Tears...a nice Chug-A, Chug-A...but no squeally hahahaPetrucci's always used DiMarzios with ceramic magnets, hasn't he? I would think that the original Duncan Custom would be in that range, but then again, he's used A LOT of different pickups over the years.
Anybody know what he was using for that track?

Yeah, pretty much.I'd go Duncan Custom.
Nope, want to go with SD. I'll go with the Custom. As far as the Quarter Pound for middle and neck, should I go flat or staggered?EMG 81, no?

He was using a Dimarzio Steve's Special (Ceramic) in his Ibanez guitars on that album. For a HSS strat body...don't know what wood.
Middle and Neck will have Quarter Pound. Looking for a fat bottom end...think of the intro to "Pull Me Under" from DT.
Thanks
Oh, the EMG wasn't a recommendation.
It was what I thought was used on the recording of No More Tears.

I read an article on the SD website all about the HSS configuration. It states that a good combination is one of the Customs for bridge and the Quarter Pound for middle and neck. Then I noticed that there are two options for QP, flat and staggered. Based upon this thread, looks like I will go with flat. So a Duncan Custom and two Quarter Pound Flat. Now I just need to find a place that sells them in Canada. The radius is only part of the problem.
Vintage stagger will over-emphasize the G string in a lighter set, regardless of the radius. Balance between the B and E may also be less than ideal, depending on how light you go.
That video makes me want a KM-6 something fierce.
