Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

So I'm trying to configure a spec sheet for a nice lead guitar. I'm a lead player, but I also need to keep my lows intact, on account that I play in drop B usually. I wanted to do a Schecter Devil style, neck thru, bubinga body, flame maple top, rosewood neck, and a blood wood fingerboard, with stainless steel frets. I've been wondering about using Paduk, and was wondering if it would be a good substitute for the bubinga. If you have any other wood combinations that are good with keeping lows preserved but having high end punch with massive amounts of sustain, please help.

Re: Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

Really theres lots of options for this. Even simple maple neck through with alder or even mahogany wings. Bubinga and paduak both tend to be on the bit brighter side but not maple or walnut bright. The rosewood neck would be fairly warm you defiantly going to want a brighter body to balance it.

One of my best guitars for low tuning is maple neck through with poplar wings.

Re: Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

I am making some assumptions about your sound based on the fact that you are playing in drop B, but, I would say a maple neck through with mahogany body, it's a classic tone, the maple is super stable as a neck (not that rosewood isn't but I prefer maple) the mahogany really keeps a solid low end with the maple top adding to definition.

Have you considered Carvin for this build, they do some amazing neck thru guitars for an incredible price with tons of custom options. I have ordered 2 Carvin customs and not been disappointed yet.

Also, based on the same assumptions of your musical style, have you considered a 7 string? That might meet some of the needs it seems you are looking too fill...

I would consider Mahogany body with a Ebony fingerboard. Loose those stainless steel frets. Every guitar that I have ever played with stainless steel frets are way too bright!

What?... Stainless frets are amazing, I have never heard a discernible difference between stainless and nickel silver frets...

^ This.

As for a neck wood, either Maple or Wenge would get my vote, with either Wenge or Ebony boards respectively. Mahogany body, I personally don't like the mids of the neck-thru design as much but I guess it'll help with the drop B...

Okay, so I've finally decided to go with a White Korina body, in a Schecter Solo body style, a wenge neck, a bloodwood fingerboard, stainless steel jumbo frets, a floyd rose tremolo, but I can't decide on a quilted or flame top. The shape of the body makes a quilted top look better, but is there any sonic difference between a flame or quilted maple top?

Re: Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

You are mixing so many types of wood together. Do you really believe that you would be able to single out the influence of any specific piece of wood when you play the finished product?

If quilt looks better, go with quilt.

Re: Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

No, there's absolutely no difference between quilted and flamed tops save for the differences that every specific piece of wood has to any other of the same species/type, even when it's two from the very same tree.

As for the body, I personally like black Limba (Korina) better but again, the difference is largely aesthetic...

I've studied the tonal characteristics of each wood, and I can anticipate what they will sound like when finished.

Re: Custom Guitar Spec, please help.

Black Korina isn't as expensive as white Korina, and they basically sound the same, I think I'll go with that.

ummm.... studying wood is sort of impossible lol. you can get relative characteristics but wood varies so much studying it to get a perfect balance usually won't work.
