Custom Ordering Pickups from the Custom Shop

Hey guys,

I'm in Europe and I tried to order a set of custom made pickups to my specs (basically an Antiquity JB with a slightly different look, scatterwound and with roughcast A5 magnet - and an Antiquity '59 with slightly more mids and a custom look).
The online ordering system wont allow it due to some EEEA regulations (or something like that).
I've talked to my local music stores - and most won't even bother doing it - only if I order 10 sets of pickups (...the next time I win the lottery)!
The ones that were willing to do it would have to contact the authorized distributer first and told me there would be a 6 to 8 month waiting period... plus I'm kind of sceptic if all my specs will be transferred correctly...

Is there anything else I can do?
Order through email maybe?

In a nutshell, no.

European distributors are in the business of moving stuff in bulk. They actually despise the little guy.

In my case, Italy, even for a Custom Floor Shop order (a short-legged '59n) I've been asked Custom Shop prices, a minimum of six months waiting time plus the usual 22% VAT, a 4% Administrative expenses plus shipping expenses.

But, if you have somebody resident in the US, he or she could order it, receive it and ship it to you.

HTH,

From what I understand, you are at the mercy of the local authorized dealer. The Custom Shop can only take direct orders from the US.

Find phantom48 on eBay. He will help you out. He's an authorised Duncan dealer, and ships internationally.

HTH,

that reminds me a lot of what I heard Perry Ormsby talking about not long ago in this podcast http://theluthierist.podbean.com/e/pickups-with-perry/, starting at about 15:00 going to about 18:45

sounds like it's a contributing factor for Ormsby to start winding their own pickups.
