Custom Shop S-Deco-5 came in!!!

Hey all,

Just got my order back from MJ. She rewound an older JB I had to the S-Deco-5 bridge (11.5-12k) specs. I haven't installed it yet, but here's what I can tell you so far.

The coils measure 5.71k and 5.76k, which shows a slight mis-match. That puts the overall resistance to about 11.47k or so.

I should be putting it in my Les Paul this weekend, and after a few days of test-driving, I'll post a review if anyone is interested.

MJ said it's basically a HOT '59 (I asked for a hotter JP bridge, and she pointed me here) with thicker mids and a bit less bright due to the overwinding. Vintage-y tone with a hotter signal, so it should stay tighter under higher gain vs a normal '59b.

Anyway... time to heat up the soldering iron

Sounds interesting. We want that review buddy.

Sounds cool to me. I should do something like that with th JB I have lying in a drawer. How much did that cost?

It cost $75 for the rewind. From what I can tell, if you send in an old pickup that is all it cost.

Is it wound with the same wire as a 59? It seems like they would have a tough time fitting that much on the bobbins... are the coils bulging at the edges of the bobbins?

I'd like to know also because I want a 13.5K wound bridge S-Deco-2.

No they aren't. In fact the bobbin overhangs the coil by a slight amount. Just by feel, maybe 1/32 inch or so. I didn't ask MJ what wire she used, sorry. My impression from what MJ said is that it has a HOT '59 tone with more thickness in the mid-range from the over-wind.

It's Sunday night and I have yet to install it. I would say that was sad... but I got to see my girlfriend all weekend. I have no regrets there. I have exams Monday and Tuesday night, so it'll probably be Thursday or Friday before I actually get it installed. I have to finish a bass for my brother (Christmas present) first though.

I'll post a review as soon as it is installed and I get over the "new toy" effect and can disect the true tone.
