Custom Shop SCPBs for Warmoth Custom T (Tele) bass

I have a pair of SCPBs from the CS that will go in a swamp ash Warmoth Custom T bass (looks like a Tele guitar). The set was wound specifically for that body. I had the CS reverse the polarity on the neck pickup so that I will be able to use a DPDT switch, which I have on a MIJ Squier Jazz that has QP for Jazz.

Would someone kindly interpret the specs for me?

The DC resistances are as follows:

Neck: 26.10k

Bridge: 30.10k

Both use Alnico II magnets

Just curious where these fall in the Pantheon of SD pickups. My guess is that they are closest to STK-2 “Hot Stack,” only hotter.

Is that correct?

I don't really know the implications in terms of tone, so any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Custom Shop SCPBs for Warmoth Custom T (Tele) bass

The DC resistance figures that you have quoted are for two-coil pickups wired in series. For realistic original P Bass performance sans noise, the coils need to be connected in parallel. (Divide the stats by 4 to arrive at the equivalent single coil resistance values.) Roughly 6.5k Neck and 7.5k Bridge. Should balance nicely for output. Not going to honk quite as much as a Jazz Bass.

Thanks for the reply.

I got add'l info from Derek Duncan:

When I checked the wiring in series, the one was reading about 30k. The 15k was the output of one coil, so I wrote the series output on the box. These pickups are their own spec, and aren't based off the Jazz bass hot stack. These Single coil P-bass stacks are something we have been doing for many years for Sting and also Dusty Hill. http://customshop.seymourduncan.com/51-p-bass-stack/ The alnico II's are going to be a little warmer sounding where the 5's are going to have a bit more output and punch.

I love mine! They really cut through well in a live mix.

marcboomer: Really glad to hear that! It has taken me a long time to get this baby on the road--can't wait.
