Hey guys,
I am looking to have a Custom guitar cabinet made with special tolex to match a new head I have coming. Any recommendations would be greatly appriciated.

At this time I am not 100% sure what I want but I am leaning towards 2 2 12" cabinets each equipped with different speakers. Thanks............ Dave

Wow! 22 12" cabinets! You gonna audition for Blue Cheer or something? lol!

Well...if you're thinking of two 12's in each cab, I'd recommend one Celestion G12H30 and one Vintage 30. That's a real nice combo!

Re: Custom speaker cabinets.

What's so special about the "special" tolex on your amp?

it's not bland old black tolex and it's one hell of an amp that's for sure!

Dave, did you want standard size 2x12's or the oversize style or perhaps a vertical 2x12 that looks like a mini 4x12 (i like that idea)?

check this out...the reinhardt vertical 2x12 mini slant cab (link below). i'm pretty sure he can do the color you need since he does his amps in that color (e-mail and ask) i think the size would be perfect also since his heads in the picutres seem to be right around the small size of the one you got. it should fit well when on one cab and when on both just put it across the two with the cabs right next to eachother and it will look like a typical 4x12. plus going with the vertical 2x12 slant cab will angle the speakers up to you so you don't have to fight with John and his 4x12 100w marshall 1/2 stack like you do now lol.

and if that's not what you're looking for here's another good cab company...trutone...

Thats exactly what I was thinking, or I might swap out the G12H for a greenback. The other thought was to go with one cab with 2 greenbacks and the other with 2 vintage 30's.

Just a different color. I would like the cabinets to match the head. Not the end of the world if it doesn't, but I think it wiould look pretty good if they match, and this head deserves the right look!

Re: Custom speaker cabinets.

I was planning on getting an Avatar cab, but I saw a Heritage amp that looked so good that I emailed them to get a quote on on a custom cab.

I think they're worth at least checking out

Re: Custom speaker cabinets.

Dave,

What kind of cab are you looking for...do you want a over and under (Like a Dr. Z) or a side by side (like a BF Bassman) or a something else (FWIW, the Reinhardt Mike mentioned is killer...the top speaker is not angled up like in a true slant cab which I really like). If you wanted the Reinhardt in a custom colour just drop Bob an email (or call him), he's a hella nice guy and im sure he'd be happy to do you a cab in any colour you wanted. You could also consider his speakers...they are made by Weber and are a cross between a G12-65 and a G12H30 and they can be had with a 75hz lead cone or a 55hz bass cone but he will sell his cabs unloaded.

I'm really not sure yet. I borrowed a Peavy 4 12" from a buddy of mine and I will use this for a while, but I like the idea of a 2 12" cabinet...... maybe 2 of them each set up with different speakers, or possibly the same speakers this way I can stack them and get the criss cross effect that so many people talk about. I may just wind up with a Bogner 2 12" with vintage 30's. I have not recieved the head yet. If all goes well I should have it today. Once I play with it for a while I will then start making some decisions. At this point I just have to get some names of Companies and opinions of the products that they make.

Well, I have tried the Reihnardt cabs and really liked them, I also tried the liuttle 2x12 Marshall cab (the one that's sold with the HW 20 watter) and liked it too I bielive Mojotone makes a smaller 2x12 (like the Marshall) as well as a Bassman/Bandmaster style 2x12 and I have always like Mojo's cabs, you cvould also look into Bob Bert cabs if you want...I have not tried his stuff yet but I have never heard anything negative at all about them. If you want a fully costom cab...custom measurments, custom style, custom colour contace Will at Armadillo Amp Works, he did the cab for my V Front Super and it is just killer...he does all kinds of stuff, he's out on vacation for a few more weeks but the wait will be WELL worth it, you could also look into Crusty Cabs, again I have not tried them but hear great things...

Re: Custom speaker cabinets.

Dave, Reinhardt builds race engines when he's not building amps and cabs...that's reason enough to go with his stuff. :D (although he did just decide to quit the engine building thing and go full on into amp/cab building) i wish he made a higher gain amp, i'd be all over it like white one rice!

anyway, he'll also use other speakers, not only his own stuff, he'll use anything you want for the most part. i think 2 vertical slant 2x12s from Reinhardt get my vote. as for speakers...i'd be stuck trying to decide between greenbacks, v30s and G12H30s

Re: Custom speaker cabinets.

Well I received my head today and all I can say is.............. I don't think it will matter much. I just plugged into a Peavey 4 12" bottom and all I can say is WOW!!!!! This head is sweet!! I will give a detailed review once I hav had more time with her! I am pretty ecited right now!!!
