Custom Strat bridge pickup...

Has anyone tried this:

Antiquity Custom Strat bridge stack.
UOA5 magnets.
Need the output to stay around 8-9kOhm.... the Bogner doesn't like real strong pickups.

Wacha think? It needs to be really bada// for blues-rock type stuff.

Couple of points...

Has anyone tried this:

By definition a stack isn't going to be a stack. You might could use the same wire, but the wire isn't the only component in an Ant.

UOA5 magnets.
Rhree things on this point. First is that the unoriented A5 thing is really only prevalent in the tweaker's world, not the world of pup manufacturing. Second thing is that, to the best of my knowledge, those mags only come in bars, not rods.

Lastly, I just wanted to double check to make sure you know the Custom for Strat, as it is, uses regualr A5.

Truthfully 8-9K on a strat pup is pretty stout. I've got a CS strat bridge pup that is essentially an un-aged Texas Hot Custom. It weighs in at 9K and is THICK and HOT with that 42awg wire.

Re: Custom Strat bridge pickup...

it could be like getting "custom stack plus" pickup, where the coil that senses the strings is scatterwound. Using slightly degaussed a5 should yield enough softness to the whole thing so that it doesn't get harsh (scatter winding also helps keep things smooth but still rich and detailed).

I've thought about this a bunch and to me it seems like a really good idea.

Re: Custom Strat bridge pickup...

I guess I'm not up on the whole UOA5 thing.
Seems odd that you can get A2 and A5 bars and studs, but with UOA5 you can only get bars. Hmmm.... Are you sure about that?

FWIW, the Ant. Custom Strat bridge I've got now is about 9.2 kOhm. Sounds great, but that's about as much output as I think I'd want. 8'ish would be a-okay, too.

Re: Custom Strat bridge pickup...

Allright... this is ridiculous. (forgive my Aquarius/Taurus inclination... I'm just not believing we can't do this.... stubborn, epicurean... obstreperous, even).
We need UOA5 studs. We can make this a SD Forum project, and come up with something really cool. Who's got them, and how much $$$ does it take to shape some studs? That's all that needs to happen....

Re: Custom Strat bridge pickup...

Frank Falbo has said their Custom Shop can do Stack Plus versions of almost any of their pickups, just might cost a bit more than the standard CS stacks because the Stack Plus noise tuning is a bit more time consuming. Really have to contact them to find out prices on magnets, and you might have to find a source for the magnets yourself for something oddball.

You might try contacting Addiction-FX, see if they can get them or can help you find out costs. If nobody is manufacturing them, may take a fair size run to get costs sane, which may be far more than it's worth to test them for even a fair sized forum group intrigued by the idea.

Still, given how much it's liked for getting a compromise between A2 and A5 behaviors, seems like it'd be a great option for pickup designers. Especially in combos like the Five-Two...
