Custom vs. 500T?

I was just playing around with an Explorer, rockin' out on the bridge pickup - which is the Gibson 500T. I dig how it sounds - definitely hot, but also full and articulate.

As mentioned in my earlier post, I'm condidering a Duncan Custom for my Les Paul.

How does the Custom compare outputwise/soundwise to the 500T?

Re: Custom vs. 500T?

the winds are similar but the 500t has a double-thick ceramic mag and 2 extra mags where the spacer and cable would otherwise sit on the outer sides, under the bobbins
the 500T is a beast, i'd put that in an LP over the custom as the custom sounds a little thicker and less bright to my ears.
eg, i find myself really enjoying the custom in an "evil edge" bolt-on mockingbird as the metal bridge and scratchplate add some brightness and cut; in an LP it was cool but a bit too 'round' for me.

the biggest difference between the 2 is that the 500T has 3 ceramic mags... i've been meaning to test a full shred or custom i put together with 3 ceramic mags, when i get my act together i'll post.

I like the 500T better myself. It has more of that grainy Gibson character & flavor than a Custom (I prefer my Customs with alnicos, like C5's and C8's).

Re: Custom vs. 500T?

I had a 500T replaced on my Gibson Les Paul Classic, for my taste, it was TOO much trebley, the sound became blurry when you turned on high gain, it lacks on clarity and definition, don't get me wrong, it's a great HEAVY, AGRESSIVE pickup, and also very hot.
