Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

Re: Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

I've never played the Custom, but have experience with the CC. The CC is very warm and has a lot of midrange to it, due to the A-2 magnet and how it's wound. My guess is that the Custom might sound hotter because of the ceramic magnet (even though they measure similarly in terms of output), and it has more bass and high end to it.

i find the custom has a more raw crunchy tone than the cc

Re: Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

Becaue of the ceramic magnet, i would imagine the Custom has more crunch.

Re: Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

Custom is brighter, with more output. The highs aren't as smooth and warm as the CC. I think the CC is cleaner, but the Custom is Mighty Pissed-off PAF.

Re: Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

having played both, i prefer the custom for metal-esque riffing. tight low end thunder with lots of clarity. perfect for palm muting. think brutal crunch/distortion, tight, 'cold' with precision like a scalpel. also known as sith.

cc on the other hand, has a more overdriven quality to it. soft attack with more mids. way rounder and more musical than the custom. think warm overdriven feel, singing, less low end tightness, more fluid. aka jedi.

may the force be with you.

For Crunch, I recommened the Duncan Distortion.

actually, it's for replacing a Distortion...just don't like it.
I know it's going to be the CC but I have a Custom in my Jackson RR and I like it very much, not perfect but comes close. I just wanted to know about the crunch of the CC... :)

Re: Custom vs. Custom Custom crunch

Don't rule out a Custom 5 either. It's got the tightest bass, clear natural highs, and the mids are more neutral, so the guitar's wood and the amp's mids dictate the mids.
The Custom is more 'balls to the wall'
The CC is huskier in the low mids and has a creamier top end
The Custom 5 is the most versatile, from crystal clean to crushing high gain.

This is the best comparison I've ever read! :cool3:
