Custom vs. DD for SG bridge

So here is the deal: I have a really cool 3 pickup 1987 SG Custom (ebony fretboard). Just put a PG in the neck, a CC in the middle and a Custom in the bridge. Standard 3 p/u wiring..no spliting, nothing fancy. The PG sings like a bird. Really nice overdriven blues tones in the SG, very cool. The Custom sounds good, but seems to lack some of the nice big round bottom the original 498-T had. I wanted to try a ceramic pickup in the bridge, and most of you in the forum seem to love the Custom. I grew up with Duncan Distortions in a couple of Gibsons and it always seemed a great match. Would the DD sound similar to the Custom but give me a little more bottom ? I dig the Custom's sound, but would like a similar tone with a little more beef in the low end . Would the DD give me some more low end grunt and a rounder bottom that I miss ?

Re: Custom vs. DD for SG bridge

The DD will have more bottom end but it will be tighter sounding in the bottom end, not rounder. The custom should be thicker sounding than the 498T. I have a few 498Ts here at the house, they all live in a drawer.

The DD is one of my favorites and it's a great high output pickup. I might also suggest a C-5. That will have more bottom than the Custom and it isn't quite as tight and thick sounding.
