Custom vs JB vs BBQ

Hey,
I have a Les Paul copy and a PRS Santana SE and i am thinking of replacing the bridge pickups on both (both have mahogany bodies btw). I play mainly modern sort of rock.
The Les Paul would be kept in Drop-D tuning and i want a 'ballsy' sort of tone, mainly for rythym(although i would still want to have a good lead sound too).
The Santana SE would be in standard and i would prefer something similar to the Les Paul but maybe more suited for rythym and lead(maybe in the style of the darkness).
My thinking was that because the Les Paul is thicker, that it would give a muddier tone and i would need a more trebly pickup in it to have a decent lead sound, is this right?
My original thought was to put the JB in the Les Paul and the Custom in the Santana SE but i keep hearing contradictory things when it comes to the JB vs the custom. Some say that JB is warmer, others say it is 'ice-pick' like compared to the custom.
Also i am considering the BBQ since it is apparently like a JB without the 'ice-pick'. Another consideration i guess is the PRS pickups themselves, maybe the dragon II?
Sorry for the long post but if anyone has any suggestions or info to help me that would be great.

I love the BBQ because in my opnion it is like a fatter JB, with mor bottom and thicker mids. The JB, however is a great pickup that just sings and is very warm and smooth. I had the JB in two Hamers and never once found it ice-picky and I used 500k pots. Hot, warm and smooth is how I describe the JB.

the JB is not ice-picky. it's a warm(not ice-picky) but bright pickup with a prominet mid-peak and a fair amount of treble. well that's what I THINK, of course. if you think 500k is too bright, replace them with 250k, that should help. however, i use 500k with mine. btw, the JB is in my strat.
