"customizing" a hotrails...

hi,

I've the opportunity to buy a hotrails secondhanded, but it's the old design (I guess there won't be a lot of the new ones going around secondhanded yet) but is doesn't fit the SC-space in my Jackson dinky due to the baseplate.
Can that 'V' of the baseplate easily be removed (cut off)?

the coolrails was no problem since it already hadn't this 'V' and the new rails would fit too, but since I'm looking for 5 'new' pups, buying them all new would be a 'little' too expensive.

edit: oh yeah, the guy is asking 60€, they can be found new for 84€ (the cheapest I've seen so far)
Is this too much? what the 'normal' price secondhanded pup go for?

I remember reading another post like this awhile back. And if I remember correctly....the mod Can be done....But I never use single coils or single coil sized p'ups. SO I don't really know. But I'm sure if you seached you could find the post I'm thinking of. Or at the very least sumone else can give you a better answer than this...Ed

yeah, did this mod with 2 differenct PUs: HotRails and SSL1
The HotRails is not problem at all, SSL1 is a bit trickier because of the way the wire is attached to the base plate.

For the HotRails you only need to open the holes (with a file or rasp) which hold the wires and bend them somewhere it cannot be hurt during removing the baseplate.
I removed the excess baseplate with a belt sander attached to the table. a coping saw could also do a good job

Got the Hotrails today, the black cable seems to be 'gounded' (?) to the bottom with some solder.
How to deal with this when removing the baseplate?

Btw, how does the HR (neck) sound split in combination with a Coolrails (middle) split?
If it's not that special I won't bother the effort (I'm not that experienced with electrics and soldering) and use them separate only.

Yah i did that in my charvel fusion deluxe.
you file with and be careful to not Touch the wires.

A Dremel with a grinder wheel would probably do the trick too.

You don´t you leave it attached...you don´t want to remove the entire baseplate, but just carefully file /fring/cut away the "nose" on the bottom to the pickup will fit into an early Ontario Jackson Rout
