D Activator X?

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to try these out?

I usually end up returning to active pickups after trying some passives (I have yet to try Duncan Distortions, Custom 5, or Custom Custom, however). I checked out the GuitarWorld reviews for the D Activators, thought about checking them out and thats when I saw the D Activator X.

Long story short, I'm familiar with active sounds but what's a good combo for passive pups? Main thing I'm looking for is chunk - floppy palm mutes are the reason I swapped out my JB/59'.

The problem might not have been that the pickups were passive, but htat your bridge pickup was a JB.
The Full Shred and the Screamin Demon are passive and will give you tight sounding palm mutes.

If those two sound a little more 80's than you'd like, I'm sure some of the other guys here can recommend other passive pickups that sound tight when palm muting. The PATB-1 Parallel Axis Trembucker is another one I think might work.

I've tried the Steve's Special and the Evo with very good results. I'd try the Full Shred, the Distortion or the Alternative 8 too for that.

If you want active kind of response in a passive pickup you can also try the L-500XL (think Pantera). It's very very hot though.

For the neck I liked the 59n very much. The PAF tone in the neck is just great!
