D'Addario Balanced tensioned strings

These were at NAMM and they seem very interesting. I might gives these a try and I think they cost less the the DRs im using now. Wonder how they will react on floating trems? I haven't used Addarios in a long time but for these I might make a switch.

Its another choice... And I like choice.

Good for D'Addario.

Probably won't be trying them - I think my want (to try) is a slightly lighter "G" string - What they had ware pretty good.

Re: D'Addario Balanced tensioned strings

Looking at the published tension graphs, they're not for me. I like the way that the bass strings have more tension. In fact, the custom gauge sets I play combine the wound strings from a set of .010's and the plain strings typically found in a .0095 set. In that light, a balanced tension set would either leave me with too-stiff plain strings or wound strings that feel floppy.

Interesting idea and innovation is always welcome. But I wonder how much of an issue non-balanced tension strings were before these came out. Personally, I never noticed it.

I'll definitely have to give these a try when they come out to see what difference they make.

Re: D'Addario Balanced tensioned strings

^^ They´re doing the exact same thing that thousands of players have been doing for decades, replacing single strings with lighter or stronger ones to get the feel they /you want. No more, no less.

They´re just packaging theirs and selling them as "balanced tension" sets.

As a luthier, I smell gallons of snake oil and marketing.
As a player, I don´t see anything they´re doing there that I can´t do better myself and haven´t done before.
But as a lazy fart that wants things easy without any effort on my part, I think it´s a great idea (except that, like Alec, I prefer the wound strings to be tighter).

But I´m also fully aware that "Easy", "good", and "correct" are in no way interchangeable terms, and I value the latter 2 significantly higher than the former. Combine that with a long history of excellent service from DR and I don´t think I´ll be buying a set anytime soon, or at least I won´t be actively searching for them... ;)

I'm in the camp that prefers higher tension on the bass strings. To me, even tension on every string is counter-productive.
