Dang Seymour. You need to get on the ball!

25's Nemesis
I love pretty much everything Seymour makes. The Antiquity I and II lines are fantastic, as are all the Custom Shop offerings. The production line minis, humbuckers, P-90's, single sized 'buckers, stacks, and singles all have a well deserved place in the market.

My gripe? The SM-1's only fit in mini 'bucker slots. No duh, right? Now, normally, I would be the first to say that if you want to use a specific pickup, mod your guitar to fit it.

I recently did that. That90'sGuy was gracious enough to sell me a SM-1n/SM-1b combo and a pair of adapter rings for PAF slots.

THESE PICKUPS SOUND FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC in a Lester. Clean, clear, chimey, and very transparent through a clean channel. They have a very airy quality to them; almost like a cross between an acoustic and a great single coil. These things do REM style clean rythms, chicken pickin' and funk with zero issues. I'll try them dirty later, but I am totally digging this pairing.

Now, what can Seymour possibly do to improve this set?

MAKE THEM IN A HUMBUCKER CASING. Seriously, Seymour, these pickups need to be in more guitars. I know, I know, hyper-mega-super-hot-improved-PAF-with-an-80's-mega-brewtal-edge pickups are popular, but c'mon, don't we have enough of those?

I humbly submit that we need more pickups with chime, kerrang, air, clarity, and character out there. The Phat Cats are cool, all of the PAF's are fab, and the P Rails are pretty awesome, but there's still some flavors missing that can very easily be adapted to the Gibson humbucker format. All of the R&D is pretty much done on these. Throw the bobbins on a PC base, put in a couple of maple or plastic spacers to keep the actual pickup centered on the base, and top it off with a solid (no holes) cover. Throw it in the wax and you're done!

This needs to be done. Please. :burnout:

Re: Dang Seymour. You need to get on the ball!

I saw those for sale and was tempted, but knew I wouldn't be happy with the looks. I would try them in a humbucker case, since I've always loved LP Deluxe tones but don't have one.

Re: Dang Seymour. You need to get on the ball!

So you want them to be available in a full-sized humbucker cover and use normal hummer rings, rather than just using adapter rings to fit the mini in a hummer slot?

Re: Dang Seymour. You need to get on the ball!

I'm just saying, if he can make Phat Cats, why not a mini under a 'bucker cover?

I have the ring, and they work, but are not the best solution. I had to make two more holes in the top of my LP (not a big deal, they're covered by the stock rings) and there's a pretty big gap all around between the minis and the adapter rings. I may make my own rings at some point, but what I'm trying to get across is that if Mr Duncan and co. would make these as drop in replacements for PAF's, a new market would be opened up.

I'd like to see this as well. I fact, I was just scheming about it yesterday. I think there are a lot of guys who would love a neck mini if it was easily available and looked like a regular humbucker.

i´m sure i´ve seen adapter rings for sale. rare, but they are around. not as nice as yours....

and i do echo the sentiment...i to want a HB sized Mini. i love the Deluxe tones.

They should make more humbucker retrofits period. The majority of factory guitars have the HH configuration and people don't want to rout for more options.

They should make a few different variarions on the Phat Cats while they're at it. A hotter version maybe?

But, in the meantime, you can get pickup mounting rings cut to any custom size here:

He answers emails quickly and does great work.
