Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

OK. So as its fairly well known now, this pedal is a straight rip of paul cochrane's timmy. I dont condone this at all and from what i know the two companies are in discussion to work things out.

Anyways, i just picked up a cool cat OD from a member here for a measly 30 bucks. I am floored at how good this thing sounds. It is one of the best low gain OD pedals ive used. In terms of value for money it cant be beat. Everyone talks about the bad monkey being the best bang for the buck...not anymore.

Ive never played a timmy so i cant say how they compare. Since dano dont really deserve one bit of credit for this pedal i take my hat off to paul cochrane and i will probably place myself on the waiting list for a timmy. At one point i may try and rehouse the cool cat just because its so ugly but im too lazy just now.

Anyways, this pedal gets a big thumbs up for sound and a big thumbs down for ethics, lol.

I'm realllly interested in their fuzz, it's a rip of the Peach Fuzz. I saw it on ebay today for a "measly" 30 bucks with free shipping. I wish i could afford to by gear now.

Did you ever try the Liquid Sunshine when on your quest for a new toy?

Not exactly transparent, but very good.

nah, never found one with a price i wanted to pay. its still on my list of stuff to check out though.

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

The TOD sounds pretty good based on a few clips I heard...not transparent (neither is the Timmy to my ears! but still). Anyway, Dano just released a statement that they were going to look into the TOD being a Timmy rip and if it is it will be changed asap...very cool of Dano to do that, it sounds like the head folks in charge were not aware of the Timmy in that context when the TOD went into production.

Anyway, no real point, just a side note...

i've tried their fuzz for about 10mins. it's awesome. the clips you hear on their website is fairly accurate. if i didn't have the tweak fuzz, i would have bought it.

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

I ordered one 2 days ago...should be here before the gig Friday.

I wanted to get one before they change it.

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

Scottish - do you have any clips of the pedal?

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

They didn't sound exactly the same...then again, two identical models of a pedal won't sound exactly the same without tweaking the tone controls.

Tolerances on components are + or - a certain percent among the same parts.

I think I will like mine when I get it.....clean boost-age is what I plan om using it for.

There are two components that have different values between the pedals. Also im not sure if the value or taper of the pots is the same plus the timmy has the separate treble and bass knobs. All in all though, they are pretty darn similar for how much of a difference in price, lol?

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

Would it be redundant to have an OCD and one of these?

I used an OCD off and on for the last 2 years and it sounds blah....It did OK for a boost but something was missing when used at medium to high gain.
I wish I could explain it better.

I think the Timmy walks all over the OCD...heck, the Bad Monkey I had sounded as good as the OCD for low gain.

Re: Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD

I picked up my Trans O/D when they first came out and I really like it. Still have it and have sold a few other of my O/D's.
