Dark Cab

I bought a Crate 4x12 cab the other day opened her up & did a parallel/ series to keep her at 4 ohms, but this baby is a dark one. What to do? Cheaply?

Re: Dark Cab

Take a look inside what speakers do you see. Celestions Seventy 80s maybe?

Doubt that. They never appeared 'dark' to me. But yes, it's got to be the speakers and not the cab. Celestion, Eminence, and WGS websites all have helpful commentary and sound bytes for selecting speakers based on your preferred voicing.
Cheap??? Sometimes new Celestions Seventy 80s are discounted drastically down to around $25 ea., but it requires patience and effort to find them. The other option is to buy used, and 'takeouts' where guys are upgrading can often be had at reasonable prices. Since Fender amps seem often to be bright, their 'takeouts' may be the best bet IMO.

Re: Dark Cab

Why did you wire it for 4ohm? I would try 16 ohm before you change the speakers.

Re: Dark Cab

It's hooked to a Marshall AVT 150 head amp. I need it to handle that power without damaging my amp or the cab.I'm operating on a very low budget.I can't afford another amp or cab at this time.

Re: Dark Cab

The Marshall won't handle a 16 ohm load?

Re: Dark Cab

I'm thinking at 16 ohms it will be too little power.(150/ 4// 75/ 8//35-40/16 ohms. Isn't this how it works? I love that power!! What a Rush!!
