Dave Murray guitar project

Hello!

New member here. I am wanting to convert my reissue 1961 custom shop strat into a Dave Murray strat. I like the mint green Pickguard the guitar has but want to put hot rails and jb, jr.in it. Am debating on cream or parchment covers. Which do you think would be a better match?

Re: Dave Murray guitar project

Ah sorry. Thought the guitar was green...

Any pics of the entire guitar?

Do you mean like his classic '57 Strat, or one of his later guitars? If you want to go with the '57, I would highly suggest using something other than a Custom Shop guitar, as you'll have to rout out two spots for full-sized humbuckers.

That said, I think it's pretty clear you want to replicate one of his later guitars. Personally, I think parchment is the way to go with a modern-style mint green guard. The mint already looks like a bad fake of a nitro guard ( "green guard"). Putting something as heavy handed as a heavily fake-yellowed cream against it would only make both look even cheesier. However, a nice subtle and classy parchment could tone down the fakeness of the green guard and make the whole combo look better.

Notwithstanding your innacurate comments about the pickguard, this is the guitar.

I think sunburst and brownburst strats are some sexy looking guitars. If you are going after the sunburst one for your project and want a Murray like then I would use a white perloid pcikguard.

Re: Dave Murray guitar project

Thank you! I really thought about the pearloid Dave Murray pickguard set but thought it might be a bit much with the 3 tone sunburst. But now you have me thinking!!!

Re: Dave Murray guitar project

I have both the black Dave Murray and the new sunburst Dave Murray strat. I must say for his modern guitars - looks wise - you've got to go with the pearloid pickguard.
