IMO No. If you want that tone, you'd do better to get the Dimarzio Super Distortion.

Adrian and Dave were both using Super Distortions in the 80's, then they switched to JB's later.

I read in an old guitar world that Dave had a DiMarzio distortion in the bridge and a PAF pro in the neck of his black Fender strat.

Super Distortions are the key. Smith scoops mids slightly and uses lots of bass and high presence, while Dave has full bass/mid/treble/gain with presence at about 6.
