Dave Mustaine Set into MIJ RG470FM - Thoughts and Tips?

Guys, anyone run the Mustaine set from his Dean VMNT's in their RG before? I've got an X2N in her bridge now and she slays! A friend is offering me the Mustaine set, probably my fav active set. Them and the Blackouts. EMG's third place :p

In terms of wiring, I'm thinking of running just two volumes and no tone control. Good or bad idea? Should I run one volume for both pickups and keep the tone control?
Can I use my 470's original barrel jack? Can I use the original 5 way switch? What else should I know before converting from passive to actives?

Thanks.

Livewires, right?

If the X2N works for you, though, it may be better to just keep it (?)

Correct. Signature LW's. It (X2N) does work for me but I'm not gonna sell it. I'll put into my RG2570 which has a D Activator X now and then use the DAX in the neck :)

As for the switch and jack, check out the livewires manual. Not sure off the top of my head what they need, but there should be some set they come with if they’re like emgs.

If you have 2 knobs you can use, I really think 1 vol 1 tone is best in the long run.

I found this diagram. Don't have a manual since they're second hand. https://www.seymourduncan.com/wirin...s,2-pickups,neck-dm,bridge-dm,1-volume,0-tone

They came with the pots and the battery clip but no switch or jack. I have a jack from my new LiveWire neck kit I can use if the Ibby one can't be used.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe a volume and tone combo is best in the long run though you can't deny that extra top end sizzle sans a tone pot.

No-load pot

A mod of the pot makes it so NONE of the tone is affected by the cap (same as no cap) when on 10, then when rolled down it is affected.

Ah I see. That's like what Charvel did with their newer Pro Mod guitars. Initially they didn't have tone pots like mine but then they included tone controls and I thought that's a bit of a compromise but then I heard about this no load pot you mentioned.

Update: I installed both Mustaine's in my RG470FM with the pots the pickups came with (100K), 1 vol, 1 tone AND wired it up with the standard 5 way switch. Pleased to say, it works! I just get three kill switches now lol. So its, neck, off, off (with very slight sound somehow), bridge and bridge again in the final position. One other thing is my tone control isn't working... not sure if I mis-wired something there. I used the stock jack the guitar came with and it isn't a typical barrel jack. It's a box style stereo jack so it works well with the actives - Thank you Ibanez!

Now I'm wondering how should I go about wiring the switch so that both pickups are on in the middle position? This guitar has a single coil but I disconnected it and coiled its' wires underneath the bridge pickup. No use for it now in active config but I don't want a gaping hole in the body by removing it...
