Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

This is my first full instrumental. The name is temporary (LOL), so I'm looking for some more suggestions.

It was inspired by Jason Becker's Altitudes, Steve Vai, Children of Bodom and other various artists. It turned out a LOT more dramatic than I intended it to LOL.

Please listen and give feedback. Brutal honesty is fine!

My guitar is an ESP Ltd H-400 with the Seymour Duncan JB/59. The rest of setup is $#&*, so don't be surprised if it doesnt sound right. This was recorded without a POD (straight into the computer :saeek: ), and the production is not up to scratch. There is a faint buzz in the background, as always with the software I was using, and every now and then there is a lot of crackling. I will re-record this sometime with my POD.

Could you also give feedback on the guitar tones? (keeping in mind that the guitar was plugged into my PC's mic jack)

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

My guess is that you had it loud when you recorded it??
That makes it harder to actually hear yourself properly.
You had a few glitches in the start innotationwise, since it is not acid but fledshredmred;)
Otherwise the tech was good, it sounded abit like a practise;)
It is not really my kind of music but I liked it.
I'll look forward to hear it with the POD instead.
Cool take.

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

Well since I grew up in the 80's and we had all kinds of shredders to listen to...well you know a simple chordprogression and some planned runs and sweeps, you know the drill.
It is not meant as anything malicious, it is just build into that style I guess:)

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

I respect your feedback man.

So by "practice", did you mean sort of Yngwie/Batio-ish?
Sounding like practice is the absolute last thing I want, short of beating it with a fish, lol. Thanks for pointing it out though :)

To be honest, I hate shred. I guess I just got a little carried away on this.
I am going to stay away from shred on my next song.

Do you think that the intro is too practice-ish also?

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

Well shred is actually a limited thing when you come right down to it, it is about playing those rehearsed runs and other stuff within a very strict frame.
Nah do not feel bad about it, everything can be used when you play, it is all a big open thing:D
I liked the piece, so do post it when you get it done with the POD as you talked about:)

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

Yep, the feedback kinda wrecked it...lol.

It's pretty cool though... I like the tone. Which pickup did you use for the leads?

It was more of a collection of riffs than an instrumental tune.... you could try to improve the 'flow' of it all. However, I liked the riffs and wish I could play that kinda stuff.

By the way, "Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser" is a fantastic name... don't change it. ;) (and it's better than the fish-parsnip version)

Re: Day of the Radioactive Vegetable Dispenser

The whole intro was done on my JB bridge, then I switched to the 59 neck for the fast picking part. I switched to the JB again near the end, then back again for the last run.

I know what you mean by it not really flowing together, this is partly because I am not very experienced at song writing. I don't know how to construct a proper solo.

But then again, I only know a few of other people's solos, so would learning more help me in writing my own?
