Hi, I have a LP standard with Jazz neck and JB Bridge. The JB is too harsh for me. I have listened to and like the sound clips of both the DD and Custom 5 on the SD site but could do with some help.
I like the Thin Lizzy sound and overall not to too heavy.
Cheers
Ric

Thin lizzzy you taliknig abt Gary Moore? I think u will like a 59B better.. or a DUNCAN CUSTOM . what is it you donyt like abt the JB?

If the JB is harsh to you, stay away from the Distortion, which is the same pickup with a Ceramic magnet. I like the JB, but the Distortion is too crunchy for my taste.

The Custom 5/Jazz is one of the best calibrated A5 humbucker sets. I'd choose the C-5. Even though the Custom has a ceramic magnet, I like that pickup too, although the C-5 is a bit more versatile from clean to highgain.

I went through the stock 'Originals' from Gibson, a Dimarzio Tone Zone, a JB, and a Lollar Imperial before settling on the DD. I was skeptical of the Distortion being too harsh, but it's really verstaile with use of volume knob and/or volume pedal. Paired up with a Jazz neck, my Paul is more versatile and lively sounding than it's been in years and the in between sounds are very usable. Great pickup!

I just installed the Custom/PGn set, and I recommend the Custom by all means (and PG as well). Thin Lizzy-ish sound is right there, and PG works great for Gary Moore's blues-sounds, ZZ Top, etc.

+1. I have a DD/Jazz set in my Gibby Explorer(previously had the 496/500, and 59's) and love the sounds with the DD/Jazz way more than the other 2 sets. I have a JB in a Jackson and do not like it. It is too harsh for me but the Distortion is not. Hmmm, can't figure that one out.

Go with a Custom 5 or Custom Custom. If you didn't like the JB (I don't either) you certainly won't be happy with a DD. If you want a hot bridge pickup with any kind of warmth and tone, avoid ceramic magnets!

Or...I took a DDn & replaced the ceramic magnet with an A3 and made a nice sounding pickup out of it.

The Custom. The C5 is good also but, I really think lower output will serve you even better since you dont want it too heavy. I would go with a Jazz bridge or a 59. The Jazz bridge is a winner in a LP!
