I recently pulled the Duncan Designed JB/59 set out of my MIK Hamer Standard (alder) and installed a Distortion at the bridge and Screamin Demon at the neck. Someone suggested that combo on this forum some time ago. I was a bit skeptical of the SD at the neck, but it's resonant peak at 7K and rep for brightness seemed like it might work at the neck.
It is a nice combo for heavy rock. The DD gives lots of mids, appropriate amounts of lows and highs, good palm mutes, and good crunch. The SD sounds like a bright, powerful PAF-ish neck pickup, good for leads and for rock cleans with the volume turned down. I do roll the single tone control back to about 7-8 with this combo.
