Dean 1000 Series

Anyone know the scoop on the Dean 1000 Series? They are made in the USA, and have ebony boards, and some models appear to have no binding. Any other differences between them and "regular" USA model Deans? They're cheaper for reasons, obviously, but what are those reasons? Is it really just the lack of maple on top?

BTW, do USA Deans use poly finishes, or is it lacquer?

If I recall, these are Deans versions of Gibsons faded series. They're cheaper due to the satin finish. I've seen them in person and they're every bit as good as the standard American Deans

Made in Tampa. CNC cut, wood glued and assembeled, shipped to Korea, painted/finished, shipped back to Tampa, electronics and hardware added.

Got it. Thanks for the info.

I had read that page, but I didn't see any real details on how the things are made.

I'd rather pass if they are finished overseas. I'm sure they are great, but it's the finishes of USA Deans that make them so appealing IMO.

It is crazy to me that it is cheaper to ship guitars halfway around the world to be painted than to just do it here.

Seriously.

But I can see it, if the batches are huge enough. Labor costs practically nothing overseas.

what i was thinking exactly!

Im not sure I like the look of any of those guitars :/ maybe the ML if it had black hardware

Re: Dean 1000 Series

AFAIK they are poly finished and they look and feel great in person. Mincer has a Black 1000 series V that is well done. Finish quality is as good as my USA finishes.

Dean has no inhouse paint shop. The other USAs are either done here in Tampa by a guy or sent to a guy in California for finishing.
