I'd tried a few Deans at a guitar show a couple of years back and loved the fit, finish and feel, but they were all a little (OK, a lot) too metal for me, so I forgot all about them. Then I saw the Japanese Soltero and thought 'Nice, but waaaay too much money'. So I forgot all about them.

Then I stumbled across this Soltero Standard for £300 and thought, 'OK, why not?'

After spending a week with it, I am amazed at the quality of this thing. The neck is beautiful, the fit and finish immaculate, the pups are reminiscent of 57 Classics (my fave LP pup) to my ears, plus the single coil option gives you the Hendrix neck option. I simply cannot believe that this is a 'cheap' guitar - it feels like a grand's worth of axe.

It's a disgrace I didn't check Dean out sooner...I shudder to think how good the US models must be if the Korean ones are of such a high standard.

I assumed this thread was gonna be someone saying Dean are raping Dimebag's memory, so was a tad disappointed to find out you're saying Dean are great. :lol:

I love the look of the soltero's. The local shop only has one of the Leslie West signatures, but man, it plays real nice.

Those solteros look really nice. Never tried one though. Glad you like yours!

I am so on the fence over the Leslie West model, might just take the plunge soon...

One of the better LP clone type guitars I've owned and played. I'm in line for a custom run korean made Black Soltero that should be in soon but I gotta figure out how to pay for it. :?: :33: :D :duh:

Dean's korean stuff is pretty crazy. One of the better guitars I've owned was a Dean Chafin Del Sol... hard to believe that thing was korean (although the photo flame top was an indicator). Really cool guitar at the time and probably one that I should have held onto, but over time you tend to get rid of the cheaper stuff and just settle on a few US or custom models.

This thread is making me even more antsy to get mine!! I hope it is the shizzle!! I love the clips of the mountain of tone pups.. I hope that I can get that tone.. Im not Leslie..

They must really have gotten better in the last 6 years or so then, my mid range korean ML was a complete nail and no amount of setting up and pickup changing could sort it out :(

I own several Dean guitars and right now my MHG Soltero is at the top of the heap in terms of playability and tone. Great guitar, made in the US and snagged for less than 1k. (Hi Gene! :wave:)
