Dean Hardtail Standard vs. Hamer Sunburst

Okay, so I went to Atomic Music yesterday to check out some used gear. Of the usual crop they have, they also had a Korean Hamer Sunburst in transparent black with PRS Dragon 2 pickups. The guitar looked and felt great. However, the pickup selector was broken (I could only use the middle and neck positions) and the aftermarket PRS pickups leave something to be desired. The playability and look of the guitar was fantastic however and for $379 starting price seemed like a steal.

Here is where my dilemma rises. I'm planning on selling my Parker Nitefly in the near future and buying a new guitar more similar to my SG only for a lower price. I had my heart set on a Dean Hardtail Standard, but after playing the Hamer, I'm having second thoughts, especially if I can get them to come down on the price of the Hamer which would allow extra cash for repairs, setup, and new pickups. I was also planning on doing the same with the Dean if I were to buy it. Either way, it'll wind up costing me about the same.

So I ask you all, the Hamer experts on the board in particular, which would be the better buy?

Is this a US hardtail Dean?

No, Korean import. I don't/won't have the money for a US Hardtail for a while unfortunately which is why I'm looking at an import of some type.

I would save up some more money and get a used Hamer USA Studio. The imports are great guitars for the money, but you can't beat an American-made Hamer. I got mine for $600, if you look hard enough, you can sometimes find them for a steal. Another model to check out is the Hamer Special FM, which is the same as a studio but with a flat top instead of an arched top. You could probably pick one of those up for even less.

Agreed. I'm obviously biased, but I think that I'm biased for a reason.
