Dean Markley going out of business?

Something Cool
Anybody knows something specific?

Just picked this up on Talkbass. All products marked sold out. Trademark not renewed.

This is bad. Nickelsteel are my standard strings since the 1980s.

Havent used Dean Markley products in years. Received several packs of new strings and they had some issues, corroded spots on the strings, never went back.

One of my first amps was a DM, from what I recall I never loved it

Hate to see a long standing company go down though

I never like to hear this. I honestly didn't realize they were still in business, but it isn't a good trend here.

I haven't used them in years, though I haven't avoided them for any reason. I will grab most good strings if they are on sale though I prefer GHS. I do have some D'addario and Ernie Ball here. I prefer Thomastik-Infeld, but haven't seen them on sale in years, and they go for $30 per set.

I had the same issue decades ago and quit using them. Would not tune or hold a tune. Broke a lot. The cryogenic stuff was just odd.. I thought the guitar was the issue but in fact the issues stopped when I went to Ernie Ball / DAddario / GHS. I recall them being quite expensive as well. Never want to see a business go out though.

Other than strings and the Pro-Mag acoustic pickup, I don't know what else they were making the last few years. I don't think they were still making small amps or pedals.

I like GHS Boomers even better than the Dean Markley NickelSteel. However, the Boomers loose their sparkly sound very quickly for me. They don't for you?

I think I'll look for a new guitar string home at DR now. But with my luck they go bankrupt next...

ive been using dr strings for years and they have served me well. they did have an issue years ago, but when i contacted them, they asked me for the broke strings, and sent me a free case of my preferred strings. i havent had issues in years. i love a pure nickle round core string, which is their pure blues. but i also use tight fits and high-beam for electric strings from time to time. big fan of fat beam bass strings and the legends flat wounds too

That is kinda why I like them. They are not overly bright. I will swap them out around two weeks before I record, that is, when they are in the sweet spot for me. Obviously not dead, but a bit of that shine is gone.

The Shine... My Precious...
