Delay Pre Distortion (No FX Loop)

Looking for a good delay that won't break the bank to put in front of my Dual Rec with the FX Loop bypassed. I find I like the amp much better with no loop, but I also want a little delay. So looking for some pre-distortion delays that anyone has had good experience with. Thanks.

The Catalinbread Belle Epoch is great in front of the amp. It features a record level control which let's you dial in total saturation to some slight ambience (the latter without turning into mush).

Heard a lot of good things about the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay in front of amps too.

I agree, the new range of tape emulations is pretty good in front of distortion. Some of the analog delays that roll off highs are good too. You've got to think, EVH, Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, David Gilmour, Brian May, etc. were all putting Echoplexes/Echorecs in front of their amps.

Re: Delay Pre Distortion (No FX Loop)

all I have ever done is put it front of the amp. Not all delays sound good that way, but I will second the Belle Epoch -best delay ever AFAIC , barring the real thing-and I will also suggest the Carbon Copy.

I've been using my Carbon Copy that way for years and I think it sounds great.
