Deluxe reverb built with big iron and 6l6s

Chickenwings

Alnico 6/8
I love my old twin for all its headroom and twang but damn that thing is heavy.
Thinking of building a deluxe reverb (or a princeton) with all the big iron and 6l6s. Any recommendations on what trannies I should look at?
Also...thinking of a big beast speaker like an eminence hemp dog or em12.
Anyone had experience with an amp like that? (And speakers)
Cheers!

Re: Deluxe reverb built with big iron and 6l6s

jim weider did that years ago, great sounding amp. ive been messing with 5881 in my deluxe reverb and i like the results. the deluxe runs lower voltages on the preamp than the bigger bf amps, which tend to like, so itll sound different but in a good way i think.

my buddy did something similar with mercury magnetics trannys and a celestion h75 speaker. he used pro reverb type trannys, single channel and it sounds huge. its lighter than a twin by a lot but still significantly heavier than my old deluxe.

How about a head box for your Twin, and a lightweight speaker cab?

I like combos and tilt back legs.

I do have a princeton reverb ii that i might put a hempdog in and see if that is going in the right direction as a first step but that will still only be 22watts of 6v6 power.

I understand. I highly prefer combos, myself.

Just yesterday or the day before, I was reading a thread on some other Website, and the OP had a similar question. Somebody responded that there was another Fender amp made that was a similar circuit to the Deluxe Reverb (or was it the Princeton Reverb), but used 6L6's instead of 6V6's. Vibroverb? Vibrolux? Tremo-something? I don't remember the exact model.

P.S. For a while now, I've been seriously exploring the idea of putting a Deluxe Reverb into a Twin Reverb package – i.e. a 2x12 combo version of a Deluxe Reverb.

The idea of a Super Reverb in a scaled down cab, maybe 1x12, 1x15,2x12, or even 2x10, is appealing too.

Yes both nice concepts. Im leaning towards the second one although a super/pro is wider than a deluxe. The 2x12 deluxe would be cool too but the two speakers would probably need to be offset

Re: Deluxe reverb built with big iron and 6l6s

Isn’t that a Pro Reverb?
a pro is the same size and width as a twin and has 2x12.
I want to build something the size of a deluxe but with double the power and a really efficient speaker.

Ah, a Mesa Boogie Mk1? ;)

I get it, upgraded to a 40W dual 6L6 amp from a Princeton Reverb, that extra headroom and punch is great for a band.

Yeah, this is your basic Mesa Boogie Mark Series. Go grab a Mark I, IIC+, III, or IV.
