Demon hex pole height adjustment

Just curious as to how the few Demon users here adjust the hex poles. I just leave mine flush with the bobbin , what's the advantage/disadvantage to raising them a bit

Re: Demon hex pole height adjustment

I have the hex pieces raised slightly, so when I split the pickup (in the neck position of a les paul) I get that coil and with the hex pieces a bit higher I get a cleaner, more airy sound. Like a 'single coil', dare I say.

While I haven't used a Demon, I did have a Matsumoku MMK45 that had double-hex poles, and I used to tweak those like crazy. You can really fine-tune the response of the pickup by lowering the body and raising the poles. If you want more bridge-side treble, crank the treble side. Need more bass on the palm mute chugga-chugs, raise the bass poles. At one point I had the 3 bass poles on the coil closest to the bridge about 1/4" up and the 3 treble poles on the inside coil the same. The rest were flush. Depnding on the amp and the tone you're after.

The guitar I used was a Vantage FV575 flying V style, so it had the typical "V honk". Arranging the poles tamed it. However, I could also make it even more pronounced.

Did some tweaking to hex poles, raised them up a little , raised the pickup a hair on the treble side . Really nice subtle difference . Thru my Splawn SS it's got more bite and presence , sounds a little more Demonish than usual
