Demon tweakin'

Hey y'all
As a newbie, I signed on because of the postings on hybrid pickups...the concept is oh-so appealing to me. Question-I've got an ESP M-II with the Screamin Demon bridge. While it is pretty much 90% sweetness and light to me...it's not perfect. My problem with it is that I'd like to tighten up the bass side of the spectrum. The mid's and treble are great...but the bass, while warm, just seems to give out. If I run it thru the EQ and pump up the bottom it simply gets very boomy.

I've been sniffin about the postings and am wondering if I should try an a-8 magnet? I went on Harmony-central and some fella said he "spliced" a S/D and a DD so the mags were half ceramic, half alnico V...give me your suggestions.

Re: Demon tweakin'

I think an A8 could tighten up the bass. I haven't tried it with a S/D, but I have with other pickups and I've noticed an improvement in the low end chunk. I like the A8 a lot better than ceramic in humbuckers, for a heavy sound. It will be louder too. You maybe to back it away from the strings a little bit. I think it's worth a try.

A hybrid pickup as I understand it is when you use different coils in a humbucker. Like the '59/Custom hybrid. I'm using one and it's an interesting pickup

I currently have SD Alnico 8 with the mod that Benji mentioned in a Les Paul. The Mod made the highs warmer and made the bass more attacky/pianolike. The A8 boosted the mids. Compared the the Custom8 it has tighter bass for sure and they dont get mushy when driven hard.

What he said. I just got a birthday present from wymore guitars last night. Threw the a8 in the demon and an a4 in the 59. Loving it so far. Clips soon.
