Desperately seeking single coil distortion mayhem...but some good clean tones too! An

Looking to upgrade my 2005 Mexican tele bridge pickup and torn between hot rails, lil 59 and quarter pound (especially when you bring coil taps into the mix)!!!
Already have a Yamaha with high output HSS pups so I want to keep the single coil "spikiness" but increase output for Nirvana level distortion (but on a TELE! *stupidlyexcited*) A little worried about too much top end thinness but I'm really interested to hear what you guys think. All advice of a positive nature gratefully received...

I think that the quarter pounder is the one for you. If you already have a telecaster harness in there, coil tap isn't necessary as you can compensate with what you have, you know. Coil tap on a telecaster? When you're out there, too many switches can be your worst enemy. When you're on that bridge pickup, you can just turn down. Teles are very forgiving in that department. If you want the single coil sound, and humbucking-comparable high output on a telecaster, the Quarter Pounder is probably the way to go. They also have the "Hot Lead for Tele' pickup that is also double the normal single coil output. Also, think about what you can do with some of the marvelous cheap, lightweight amps with voicing and effect options they're making now! Take it from me, long past mark of mouth, I wish we had the Fender Mustang II back in 1967!

welcome to the forum!

the hot rails and lil 59 are humbuckers and arent "spikey" the qp is a fat sounding single coil and may work for you. level of distortion mostly comes from amps and pedals though

Twangbaner-
Wound over 8K, but with Tele like copper plate on the bottom, gives what would be a low end muddy unusable pup, into a sparkling pup, with miles of spank and attitude. I really shouldn't get another, cause of my budget, but I just ordered another. My first went into the middle slot of an HSS, and I believe I can finally use a single coil ( TBANGER ) in the bridge slot of an SSS and get the same volume and crunch of the low PAF style HBuckers I normally use in all my Strats!!
I love this single coil-loud, breaks up smartly when pushed, and plenty of treble.
