DFH2, recorded test song

Well, started playing around with this thing again. The first time I couldnt get the drums to sound very good at all.. then again the sampler it comes with its pretty terrible. After some experimenting they are sounding decent right now, so i went ahead and tried recording some in flames for practice. There are some quirky things when programming through cubase, like the reverb on the snare for example. Usually i can alter the sound of the drums in the vst window while actually programming, but after so long it seems like the settings "stick" and now i have too much verb on the snare! Plus i couldnt lower the volume on it or the hats. If anyone has some idea on how to do that, or let me remix the drums without reprogramming then please let me know. btw, im still much of an amateur at mixing, but sounds better than anything ive done to date. What does everyone think?

-Edit- Forgot to mention, I used my 7 string in B standard.

I didn't read your post at first, and was about to say "nice tune man, very in-flames-ish!" but...well...you know...

Anywho...sounds pretty good, your right though, wayyyy too much verb on the snare. The bass drum could be brought out a bit as well.

That's definately more complex than anything i've been able to do with that program. I still really don't know what I'm doing, but as far as your mix goes, you know the deal-less verb on the snare and more kick drum. I keep all the stuff in dfh2 off, and use the inserts in cubase. Now I have Nuendo, which has a multi band compressor, and that really makes a huge difference. I've been recording each drum/cymbal on separate tracks one at a time, then using cubase/Nuendo to get my mix. Probably a "correct" way to do it but I don't know what it is. But it sound to me like you are on the right track.

Yea, i think i will leave all effects to cubase for the drums after that mess. Also, how do you divide the drums to different tracks? When i open the drum editor everything is there.. i dont understand how to tell the kick to go to this track, and so on. Oh, and i can send you my presets for the samples, if that will get you started. I had to mess with it for a while before i even bothered to program anything.

Like I said, the way I do it is probably totally wrong, but I open up a midi track, play just the bass drum parts on the keyboard, open another track, play the snare, and so on. For less complex parts and fills, it's easier for me to do it this way. I save the crashes and ride stuff for last. Then just export the midi tracks, they get sent back as audio tracks and mix each drum one at a time. You guys are probably laughing, what a dope! But my dkfh2 has no instructions or help, so I've been on my own.
