Diagnosing Vintage amp hum !!!

so I got a VT-22 over the weekend which some of you may have seen with my other NAD thread..

great amp, great tone , loud as hell and weight to match but here is the one issue that will drive me nuts... HUM

there is a low hum when the amp is not on standby and no guitar is plugged in. The hum stays the same as you crank the volume.

Any ideas what it could be before I lug this 88 pound beast to the tech?

I came here for advice cause you guys always know so much about amps!! I need to read up!

Re: Diagnosing Vintage amp hum !!!

My guess is the filter caps. First thing to check on a vintage amp imho... besides making sure it has a 3 prong plug that is.

Ok thanks guys... I don't really know much about the technical stuff in amps so I will just bring it to a tech and ask him to check/replace the caps.

It has a 3 prong cord too
